The following description of last week's home invasion suspect is markedly different from the description we sent out on Friday. Please take a look, and BE CAREFUL.

Age: 33-38 years
Race: Black, Sex: Male
Weight: 190-200 lbs., Height: 6'0"
Complexion: Dark
Build: Med., Hair: Short black
Weapon: Knife
Other: Dark hooded jacket, dark sweat pants & dark footwear, red & royal blue striped hat (no logo) worn with peak worn to the toward left.

Incident: 25 year-old female reported while inside the common area of her apartment with her boyfriend, they were approached by the offender armed with a knife who forced them into her apartment in the area of 900 block of Clinton St. While inside that location, the offender bound the boyfriend and sexually assaulted the complainant. The described male was seen in the building by a witness just prior to the incident.

WSWCA Casino Discussion & Board Election TONIGHT!

To correct and clarify yesterday's note about new entrances at Pennsylvania Hospital:

The Main entrance remains on 8th Street.
The newly expanded Emergency Room entrance is on Spruce Street.
The Ambulance Only entrance is on 9th Street.

Casino Discussion & Board Elections: Oct. 14
Because Board elections and our upcoming discussion of a potential casino opening at the Gallery are expected to be well-attended, the board will be be conducting its regular monthly business at an earlier start time. If you'd like to attend the entire WSWCA Board meeting, please arrive at 6:15pm

The membership meeting, as previously announced, will begin at 7 pm. The agenda for the membership meeting includes the election and casino discussion. (The topic will be the possibility of a casino coming to the Gallery. We have invited representatives from Foxwoods, Councilman DiCicco and Mayor Nutter and his city representatives.)

Board applicants will make their statements and voting will begin and end early in the session, so please arrive on time if you'd like to vote. As always, there will be one vote per membership (if your household or business contains two or more members, you will only be given one ballot unless each of you has a separate membership).

Filming in Neighborhood
This is from a letter from "Ring of Fire" Productions:

Ring of Fire Productions is scheduled to film scenes for their upcoming feature film in your neighborhood on the following date:

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

On this day we will be filming scenes on the rooftop of a building in the area of 16th & Market Streets. To accomplish these scenes we will require filming from, and of, helicopters. There will be two helicopters flying and hovering in the vicinity of 16th & Market Streets for the duration of the day, beginning at 5:00am. These helicopters will be marked with FBI insignia and outfitted with film cameras.

Pennsylvania Hospital is Moving Its Entrance
Please note that the Pennsylvania Hospital has moved its main entrace to 8th Street, next to its newly expanded ER. They tell us that the Spruce Street entrance will be closed.

Wash West Incidents
The below incidents in the Washington Square West area were recently reported to the 6th District:

(REPORT) On Monday, 09/22/08, between 9:05 AM and 3:45 PM, complainant's apartment in the 800 block of Spruce St. was entered without force through a window near the fire escape. Taken was a laptop. 6th District Officer Parisaeu attempted to lift latent finger prints from the scene.

(REPORT) On Monday, 09/22/08, between 7:45 PM and 10:05 PM, out-of-town complainant's 2007 Honda Motor Scooter, parked in the 1200 block of Manning St. was taken without permission. The complainant's keys were missing while she was in a local club.

(REPORT) Between 8 PM, Monday, 09/22/08 and 9:30 PM, Tuesday, 09/23/08, complainant's bicycle, secured in the 200 block of S. 13th St. was taken without permission.

(REPORT) Between 11 PM, Tuesday, 09/23/08 and 1:45 AM, Wednesday, 09/24/08, complainant's bicycle, locked to a tree in the 1300 block of Walnut St. was taken without permission.

(ARREST) On Tuesday, 09/23/08, 11:20 AM, 6th District bicycle patrol Officers Ferrero and Cullen, assigned to the 13th St. Corridor observed two males engaged in an illegal hand to hand drug transaction at 13th & Locust Sts. at the entrance of the PATCO High Speed Line. The seller was on a bicycle and fled south on 13th St. when he observed the officers approaching. Officer Ferrero apprehended the seller at 13th & Lombard Sts., recovering 73 packets of crack cocaine and the $10 handed to him by the buyer. The buyer was apprehended at Juniper & Locust Sts. by Officer Cullen and recovered was a packet of crack cocaine. The 32 year old seller with a S.W. Phila. address was charged with Illegal Narcotic Sales. The 26 year old buyer with a homeless shelter address was charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine and Failure to Appear for a previous court case.

(ARREST) On Wednesday, 09/24/08, 12 PM, 6th District bicycle patrol Officers Ferrero and Cullen, assigned to the 13th St. Corridor observed a male blocking the entrance to an apartment building in the 200 block of S. 13th St.. The officers determined he did not live there, was not a guest and the property manager objected to his blocking the doorway. The male was arrested for blocking the entrance and found in his pocket were two packets of marijuana. The 35 year old offender with a S. Phila. address was charged with Possession of Marijuana.

(REPORT) On Wednesday, 09/24/08, between 11 AM and 2 PM, out-of-town complainant's 2007 Nissan, parked in the paid garage, 300 S. 8th St., had a window smashed and a GPS taken. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(ARREST) On Thursday, 09/25/08, 3:30 PM, 6th District bicycle patrol Officers Ferrero and Cullen, assigned to the 13th St. Corridor observed a male in the 200 block of S. Camac St. rolling a marijuana joint. The male was arrested and recovered from his pocket was a bag of marijuana. The 48 year old homeless offender was charged with Possession of Marijuana.

(ARREST) On Thursday, 09/25/08, 11:10 PM, Jefferson Hospital security officers observed two males writing on the wall at 101 S. 11th St. with black ink and silver paint marker. Written was "NEKST SKREW". The offenders were detained by security and turned over to 6th District officers along with the ink and markers. The males, ages 19 and 22, both with Germantown addresses, were charged with Criminal Mischief, Possession of an Instrument of Crime and Conspiracy.

(REPORT) Between 9 PM, Thursday, 09/18/08 and 10:30 AM, Thursday, 09/25/08, complainant's bicycle was taken without permission from the common storage area of his apartment building in the 200 block of St. 9th St.

(ARREST) On Friday, 09/26/08, 9:30 PM, 6th District Officers Wimsey and Nheb, assigned to uniform patrol in the Wash. Sq. West area observed a male riding a bicycle continually circling the 1300 block of Locust St. The male was stopped for investigation and ordinance violations and found in his possession were 11 packets of crack cocaine. The 19 year old offender with a S. Phila. address was charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine.

(REPORT) Between 8:30 AM, Wednesday, 09/24/08 and 9:30 PM, Friday, 09/26/08, complainant's bicycle, secured in the 1000 block of Locust St. was taken without permission.

(REPORT) On Saturday, 09/27/08, between 5 PM and 7:10 PM, complainant's 2007 Subaru, parked in the 200 block of S. 9th St. had a window smashed and a battery charger taken. 6th District Officer McQue was unable to lift latent finger prints due to rain.

(REPORT) On Monday, 09/29/08, between 5:15 AM and 7 PM, complainant's apartment in the 300 block of S. 12th St. was entered without force and taken was an IPod and radio. 6th District Officer Savino attempted to lift latent finger prints.

(ARREST) On Thursday, 10/02/08, 8:50 PM, 6th District bicycle patrol Officers Ferrero and Cullen observed two males engage in a hand-to-hand drug transaction on the N.E. corner of 13th & Spruce Sts. The dealer saw the officers approaching and fled on a bicycle, the officers pursued and apprehended the male a short distance away, the other male (buyer) left the scene during the pursuit. The male had in his possession, 15 packets of crack cocaine and $114 in cash. The 25 year old offender with a S. Phila. address was charged with Illegal Narcotic Sales.

(ARREST) On Friday, 10/03/08, 1:45 AM, 6th District Officers Smith and McCauley, assigned to the 13th St. Park & Walk foot-beat observed a male striking another male in the chest with a 2x4 board in the 200 block of S. Juniper St. The complainant was not seriously injured and the 45 year old offender with a N.J. address was charged with Aggravated Assault and related offenses.

(ARREST) On Friday, 10/03/08, 7 PM, 6th District bicycle patrol Officers Ferrero and Cullen observed a male walking in the 300 block of S. Juniper St. with a glass crack pipe in his hand. The 44-year-old offender with a North Phila. address was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

(ARREST) On Saturday, 10/04/08, 7:05 PM, 6th District bicycle patrol Officers Ferrero and Cullen observed a male in the 1200 block of Latimer St. rolling a marijuana blunt. The 20 year old offender with a Darby, PA address was charged with Possession of Marijuana.

Important Board Election Info

This year's general membership meeting and board elections will be held on Tuesday, October 14th. We have six openings on the board, and EIGHT APPLICANTS...and we're thrilled to have such interest in these positions! It has turned into a real election, and all members are strongly encouraged to attend and VOTE. (Think of it as practice for the presidential elections in November.)
