Nominate Your Neighbors!
Do you know someone who loves to give back to the community? Does your neighbor tutor or mentor? Does the woman down the street participate in fundraisers? Would you like to acknowledge the older neighbor down the street who maintains a clean block or tries to keep the buildings free of graffitti? Or the neighbor who does his best for the stray cats in the area, finding them a good home?

Volunteers don't get nearly enough acknowledgement or thanks in today's fast paced society. Wash West would like to change that. We're offering all Wash West residents a chance to say "Thank You". If you know someone who you think deserves a moment in the spotlight for their contributions to the community, let us know.

The Post's newest feature "Spotlight" will contain a profile on a Wash West resident who has been nominated for their outstanding contribution to the community. In addition we will be printing all kinds of "thank yous" from Wash West residents to other residents. Please email all nominations and "Thank You" requests to news@washwestcivic.org. For Spotlights: be sure to include your name and contact information, your nominee, their contact information and a brief summary of why you think they deserve their moment in the spotlight. For Thank Yous: please submit a brief (one or two sentence) piece saying thanks!

Wash West and the CED Legislation
As reported in last week's e-post, Civic Association president Judy Applebaum recently testified about CED legislation before City Council. This legislation passed last Thursday. Civic Association member Greg Heller, from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, has written up a brief description of this legislation in layman's terms, so that we could understand it better, and for this we thank him. We're posting this document on our server for anyone to access. Click here to download the document.

The Philadelphia Budget Crisis and Wash West
Councilman Frank DiCicco recently released a letter detailing what steps had has taken, and will recommend, to deal with the looming budget crisis that faces our entire city. In it he addresses the issue of Fire Company cuts, library and pool closures, and voluntary cuts within his own office. To read the letter, please download the pdf at www.washwestcivic.org/budget_letter.pdf
