WSWCA E-post: 08/24/09

The below incidents in the Wash. Sq. West area were recently reported to the 6th District:
(REPORT) Between 8 PM, Saturday, 08/15/09 and 8 PM, Monday, 08/17/09, complainant found that his 2005 Chevy, parked in the 200 block S. 9th St. had a damaged steering column in an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle.

(REPORT) On Monday, 08/17/09, between 9:35 AM and 12:30 PM, complainant's apartment in the 400 block S. Broad St. had the front door forced open and a laptop, video game system and camera taken. 6th District Officer Parisaeu attempted to lift latent finger prints.

(REPORT) Between 1 PM, Monday, 08/17/09 and 8 AM, Tuesday, 08/18/09, complainant's bicycle, secured in a courtyard in the 1000 Pine St. was taken without permission.

(REPORT) On Wednesday, 08/19/09, between 4:15 PM and 4:45 PM, out-of-town complainant's 2006 Dodge, parked at 9th & Locust Sts. had a window smashed and a laptop taken. Incident was reported to the 3rd Police District, no latent finger prints were lifted.

(REPORT) Between 4 PM, Wednesday 08/19/09, and 10:15 AM Thursday, 08/20/09, out-of-town complainant's 2009 Honda, parked in a paid lot in the 1300 block Locust St. had a GPS and an IPOd taken, there was no forced entry. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(REPORT) On Thursday, 08/20/09, between 6:30 AM and 5:30 PM, complainant's apartment in the 1000 block Pine St. had the front door forced open and a laptop taken. 6th District Officer Sweeney attempted to lift latent finger prints.

(ARREST) On Tuesday, 08/11, 6th District Sergeant LaRose set up a surveillance for illegal narcotic activity in the Wash. Sq. West area when at 7:30 PM, officers observed a male exited the Parker/Spruce Hotel, 261 S. 13th St,. go over to a male standing on the corner and sell him narcotics. The seller was arrested with 5 packets of crack cocaine i his possession , the buyer was arrested with $20 in hand and a crack pipe i his pocket. The 21 year old seller with a North Phila. address was charged with Illegal Narcotic Sales, the 37 year old buyer with a homeless shelter address was charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine.

(REPORT) Between 10 AM, Tuesday, 08/11/09 and 11 AM, Wednesday, 08/12/09, complainant's 2004 Jeep, 2009 parked in the 1000 block Pine St. had a window smashed and a GPS taken. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(ARREST) On Wednesday, 08/12/09, 11:40 PM, 6th District plainclothes Officers Seifert and Wenger observed a male in the 1100 block Locust St. kneeling at the rear of a 2003 Chevy that had a broken vent window. The male was placing a case into a bag. The male was stopped for investigation and found to have a CD case with 60 CDs, a wallet with ID from another person and a cell phone in the bag. The out-of-town owner of the Chevy was located and identified the items as having been inside his vehicle. The 45 year old homeless offender was charged with Theft From Motor Vehicle.

(REPORT) On Thursday, 08/13/09, 5:10 PM, a male took an I-Phone from the counter of the cafe, 401 S. 13th St. and fled. The offender was described as a black male, 30's, 5'10", wearing white & blue shorts, and carrying a blue folder.

(REPORT) On Saturday, 08/15/09, between 3 PM and 6:30 PM, complainant's unlocked 1998 Jeep, parked in the 1100 block Locust St. was entered and a laptop, IPod and messenger bag were taken. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(REPORT) On Sunday, 08/16/09, between 4:30 PM and 5:15 PM, complainant's 2002 Jeep, parked in the 1000 block Spruce St. had a GPS, Satellite radio and back pack taken through an open window. 6th District Officer Sweeney lifted latent finger prints from the scene.

6th District Police Town Hall Meeting
The 6th District Town Hall Meeting will be on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 7PM at the 6th Police District located at 235 N 11th St.

On September 15, 2009, which is the date for the September Town Hall meeting we will have an Emergency Preparedness Workshop to let residents know how to be prepared in an emergency. Please attend this will start at 7:15pm. We will start Town Hall meeting this evening at 6:30pm.



The below incidents in the Wash. Sq. West area were recently reported to the 6th District:
(REPORT) Between 8 PM, Sunday, 07/26/09 and 7:30 AM, Monday, 07/27/09, complainant's 2007 Audi, parked in the 400 block S. Hutchinson St. had a window smashed and $7 in change taken. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(REPORT) Between 8 PM, Sunday, 07/26/09 and 10:30 AM, Monday, 07/27/09, complainant's 1995 Ford, parked in the 800 block Addison St. had a window smashed, the vehicle was entered, but nothing was taken. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(REPORT) On Saturday, 08/01/09, 11:15 PM, complainant was on a bench in Khan Park, 1101 Pine St. when two males approached him, identified themselves as Park Security and engaged in a conversation. Complainant became suspicious and started to call 911 and the males took his cell phone, after a brief struggle, the complainant retrieved his phone and the males fled, east on Pine St. The offenders were described as black males, #1-29-35 years, 5'6",. 210 lbs., wearing a white tank top, blue shorts, #2-25-30 years, 6'1", 170 lbs., wearing dark jeans, navy blue sweatshirt.

(REPORT) On Monday, 08/03/09, 2 AM, complainant's were confronted in the 200 block S. 10th St. by a male that exited a vehicle, pulled out a handgun and demanded their valuables. The offender took a wallet and cell phone, and fled south on 10th St. in a dark colored auto. The offender was described as a black male, 30-40 years, 6'1", medium build, wearing a dark shirt, dark pants.

(REPORT) On Tuesday, 08/04/09, between 8:15 AM and 7 PM, a laptop was missing from complainant's apartment in the 1300 block Locust St. while complainant was at work. There was no forced entry into the premises and the doors and windows were all locked. 6th District Officer Winckler attempted to lift latent finger prints.

(ARREST) On Tuesday, 08/04/09, 1:10 PM, complainant was walking on 12th St. @ Manning St. when two males grabbed her handbag and pulled the complainant down. The males fled north on 12th St. and were described as black males, 20 years old, both thin build, under 6' tall, #1-wearing a blue & black checkered scarf around his head, #2-blonde Mohawk haircut, both were barefoot. The information concerning this robbery was given out at the 3 PM roll call and at 9 PM, 6th District bike patrol Officers Blackburn and McQue observed a male in the 1200 block Locust St. fitting the description of offender #2. The male was stopped, found to have two warrants for failure to appear, the male was also in possession of ID and credit cards of the complainant. The 18 year old offender with a North Phila. address was charged with Robbery, Theft, Conspiracy and related offenses.

(ARREST) On Tuesday, 08/04/09, 1:55 PM, a male was arrested at 1300 Locust St. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(ARREST) On Tuesday, 08/04/09, 9:30 PM, a male was arrested at 1300 Spruce St. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(ARREST) On Tuesday, 08/04/09, 10:20 PM, a male was arrested at 200 S. Juniper St. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(ARREST) On Wednesday, 08/05/09, 9 PM, a male was arrested at 12th & Spruce Sts. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(ARREST) On Wednesday, 08/05/09, 9:15 PM, a male was arrested at 1200 Locust St. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(REPORT) On Wednesday, 08/05/09, between 5 PM and 5:30 PM, complainant's bicycle, left unattended in the 1100 block Waverly St. was taken without permission by a black male, 5'6", wearing a white T-shirt and tan pants.

(ARREST) On Thursday, 08/06/09, 2:10 PM, a male was arrested at 1200 Locust St. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(REPORT) On Saturday, 08/08/09, 4:10 AM, complainant was talking to the driver of a red jeep, stopped in the 1200 block Pine St. when a male ran past and snatched his purse. The male ran east on Pine, then south on 12th St. and was seen getting into the same red Jeep. The offender was described as a black male, 6'1", 170 lbs, light complexion, wearing a white T-shirt, dark shorts, the driver of the Jeep was described as a black male, 5'8", dark complexion, wearing a white T-shirt, tan pants.

(REPORT) On Sunday, 08/09/09, 5:55 PM, employee of Philly Flavors, 343 S. 13th St. had a male pay a $20 tab with a $100 bill. The employee gave the male $80 in change and the male then grabbed the $100 bill from the top of the cash drawer and fled. The offender was described as a black male, 35 years old, 6'2", 200 lbs, bald, wearing a light blue Polo shirt and shorts.

Wash West Incidents
The below incidents in the Wash. Sq. West area were recently reported to the 6th District:

(ARREST) On Monday, 07/20/09, 7:15 PM, 6th District bike patrol Officer Sprouls stopped a male fitting flash of a suspect wanted for taking a bicycle from the 200 block S. 12th St. A witness identified the male and the owner identified the bike. The 21 year old offender with a Germantown address was charged with Theft and Possession of Marijuana.

(ARREST) On Thursday, 07/23/09, 10:50 PM, a male was arrested at 1200 Spruce St. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(REPORT) Between 8:45 AM, Tuesday, 07/21/09 and 2 AM, Wednesday, 07/22/09, complainant's unlocked apartment was entered and a laptop taken in the 300 block S. 11th St. 6th District Officer McQue attempted to lift latent finger prints, the scene was contaminated, incident not reported until 07/23/09.

(REPORT) On Friday, 07/24/09, between 5:45 AM and 1:25 PM, complainant's apartment in the 300 block S. 11th St. had a door forced open and taken were 2 laptops. Complainant refused to have a police officer process the scene for latent finger prints.

The below incidents in the Wash. Sq. West area were recently reported to the 6th District:

(REPORT) On Monday, 06/22/09, between 12 AM and 9 AM, complainant's 1992 Chevy Pick-up, parked in the 1300 block Spruce St., had a window smashed and a wallet taken. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(ARREST) On Tuesday, 06/23/09, 9:25 PM, a male was arrested at 13th & Walnut Sts. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(ARREST) On Tuesday, 06/23/09, 9:45 PM, a male was arrested at 13th & Spruce Sts. for Prostitution by the City Wide Vice Unit.

(REPORT) On Tuesday, 06/23/09, 9 PM, a male was seen in the fitness room on the 2nd floor of the gym, 204 S. Camac St. and taking a laptop and a wallet. The offender was described as a black male, 5'5"-5'9", thin build, wearing a bright striped Polo shirt, green army shorts.

(REPORT) On Wednesday, 06/24/09, 4 AM, complainant had her wallet taken by a male armed with a handgun while in 900 block Pine St. The offender was described as a black male, 30-35 years old, 5'11", 170 lbs., short hair, wearing a green sweat suit. The offender got into a dark colored 4 door auto parked on the corner of 9th & Pine Sts. and fled east on Pine St.

(REPORT) Between 7 PM, Tuesday, 06/24/09 and 7 AM, Wednesday, 06/25/09, complainant's 2005 Toyota, parked in the 200 block S. 12th St. had a vent window broken and the interior was ransacked, nothing was taken. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(REPORT) On Saturday 06/27/09, between 2:30 AM and 11:30 AM, complainant's 2006 Acura, parked in a lot in the 200 block S. Juniper St. with a window partially down had a GPS, sunglasses and $50 taken. 6th District Officer Maiorano on scene to attempt to lift latent finger prints.

(REPORT) On Saturday, 06/27/09, 11 PM, complainant observed a male smash a window of his 2008 Nissan, parked in the rear of the 300 block S. 12th St., take a GPS and flee north on Fawn St. The offender was described as a black male, 20's, medium build, wearing a black baseball cap, green sweatshirt, jeans. The complainant contaminated the scene and no laten finger prints were lifted.

(REPORT) On Sunday, 06/28/09, 1:40 AM, complainant was standing on the corner, 10th & Lombard Sts. when unknown person(s) removed a wallet from her handbag without her knowledge.

(ARRESTS) On Sunday, 06/28/09, 5:05 PM, complainant was walking in the 800 block Spruce St. when 4 teenage males walked up to him and demanded his phone, the complainant was then slapped in the face and dropped his phone which was picked up by one of the males and they walked east on Spruce St. 3rd District police stopped a group of males fitting the description provided by the complainant at 7th & Bainbridge Sts. The complainant identified the 4 males and his phone was recovered from one of them. The offenders, ages 14-17, 3 with West Phila. addresses, 1 with an Olney address were charged with Robbery, Theft, Conspiracy and related offenses.

(ARRESTS) On Sunday, 06/28/09, 3:40 AM, a bouncer for Club Libations, 227 S. Broad St. broke up a fight inside the club and moved all parties outside, once outside the fight started again and the bouncer tried to separate the parties.. Two males in the crowd started punching the bouncer who realized that he was stabbed in the left side. The offenders fled in a burgundy Acura which was stopped in the 1300 block Pine St. by responding police and two of the occupants were identified by the complainant as the offenders. The 23 and 30 year old offenders, both with South Phila. address were charged with Aggravated Assault and related offenses.

(REPORT) Between 3:30 PM, Monday, 06/29/09 and 8:15 AM, Tuesday, 06/30/09, complainant's 1999 Honda, parked in the 300 block S. Camac St. had a window smashed and golf clubs taken. 6th District Officer Wimsey attempted to lift latent finger prints.

(REPORT) On Wednesday, 07/01/09, between 4 PM and 4 :20 PM, complainant's 1994 Toyota, parked in the 1000 block Spruce St. had a window broken and was entered, but nothing was taken. This report was received by the DPR Unit via phone, police were not dispatched, therefore no latent prints were lifted.

(ARREST) On Wednesday, 07/01/09, 8:20 PM, 6th District bike patrol Officers Ferrero and Cullen stopped a male for investigation outside the Parker/Spruce Hotel, 261 S. 13th St. and the male dropped a Tic-Tac container. The officers recovered the container and found crack cocaine inside. The 21 year old homeless offender was arrested and charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine.

(REPORT) On Thursday, 07/02/09, 11:42 AM, the attendant for the InterPark garage, 1001 Locust St. was held up of two deposit bags, point of gun, by a white male, 30's, blonde hair, unshaven, wearing a dark baseball cap, white shirt with writing on it, dark jacket, sunglasses. Central Detective Division processed the scene and received video surveillance.

(ARREST) On Thursday, 07/02/09, 10 PM, 6th District Officers Kovach and DiDonato, acting on community complainant's of prostitution, observed a male in front of 1203 Lombard St. attempting to flag down passing motorists. The male was arrested for Obstruction of Highway ad found in his possession were Narcotic pills for which he did not have a prescription. The 29 year old offender with a Newtown, Pa. address and who was arrested on 06/23/09 for prostitution at 13th & Walnut Sts., was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

(REPORT) On Wednesday, 07/01/09, between 6:30 AM and 2:15 PM, complainant's apartment in the 1300 block Spruce St. was entered without any force and two laptops were taken. Incident was not reported until 07/02/09, the scene was contaminated and no latent finger prints were lifted.

(REPORT) Between 8 PM Friday, 07/03/09 and 5 AM, Saturday, 07/04/09, complainant left her room in the Parker Spruce Hotel, 261 S. 13th St, leaving the door unsecured because it would not lock.. Taken from the room while she was out was a laptop, cell phone and cash. Incident reported at 11 AM, the scene was contaminated and unable to lift latent finger prints.

(REPORT) On Friday, 07/03/09, 5:15 PM, 6th District bike patrol Officer Cullen was on patrol in the 300 block S. Camac St. when he observed a male look in his direction and throw a yellow tinted packet to the ground. Officer Cullen recovered the packet, saw that it contained crack cocaine and arrested the male. Two more packets of crack were recovered from the 26 year old offender with a Holmes, Pa. address. The offender was charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine.

Wash West Incidents
The below incidents in the Wash. Sq. West area were recently reported to the 6th District:

(ARREST) On Monday, 06/15/09, 10:30 PM, 6th District plainclothes Officers Seifert and Wenger, assigned to the Wash. Sq. West area observed a male take items form a 2007 Jeep, parked in the 1200 block Locust St. after unzipping a window. The out-of-town owner identified the items and the 27 year old homeless male was charged with Theft From Motor Vehicle.

(ARREST) On Wednesday, 06/17/09, 4 AM, 6th District Officers Macchione and Cifelli, assigned to uniformed patrol stopped a male carrying a laptop on 13th St. near Locust St. after responding a to a radio call of a theft from auto. The male also had 2 I-Pods and credit cards in another person's name in his possession. A complainant was located and identified all the items as coming from her vehicle parked in the 1300 block Locust St., which was left unlocked. The 32 year old offender with a local address was charged with Theft From Motor Vehicle.

(REPORT) On Thursday, 06/18/09, 1:30 AM, complainant was talking on his cell phone at 12th & Locust Sts. when a male ran past him and snatched the phone fro his hand. The offender was described as a black male, 20's, medium build, wearing a dark polo shirt. Report wasn't made until 4:20 PM, 06/19/09 to the 2nd District.
