Volunteer Opportunity
In response to comments from the community, the Friends of Louis I. Kahn Park are looking for one to three volunteers from the neighborhood to form a temporary committee for a short-term lighting project. This Friends' committee will evaluate the current lighting and electrical infrastructure, make recommendations for changes, and oversee any changes. Funding is anticipated for the initial study and the cost of professional advice.

To volunteer please call and leave a message at 215-592-0481 or write the Friends at P.O. Box 1830, Philadelphia, PA 19105-1830.

7:59 PM? DO NOT Put Out Your Trash
As many of you have found, the city is ticketing like mad for trash violations. Please, do not put your trash out before 8 pm on the night before trash pickup, or you may very well get a ticket.

PS...thanks for the placement suggestions that many of you sent for Big Belly solar trash compactors. We will do our best to guide city workers to the corners most in need.

Planning Bike Lanes through Wash West
The city Planning Commission is exploring options for creating two east-west bike lanes that will run from river to river and through Wash West. They gave a very helpful presentation at the last public board meeting, and have provided us with an electronic version of their planning documents in the hopes that members who did not make the meeting could take a look and get involved in the discussion.

To download the .pdf document, visit www.washwestcivic.org/bikeplan.pdf.

For even further information, to fill out a questionnaire, or to find out about other meetings, visit their website at www.tooledesign.com/philadelphia/.

Dial 311
The Civic Association is encouraging all members to dial the new 3-1-1 service, whenever you notice a non-emergency neighborhood problem, DAY OR NIGHT! This includes litter, broken street lights or fire hydrants, city services, or just to answer a general question you may have about Philadelphia.

The reason we are so excited about this service is because, if it works the way it should, it will increase government accountability. 311 callers will receive a tracking number, allowing them to follow-up on their service request. They will also be given a specific time frame in which to expect the service to be provided so that they have clear expectations of when and how their request will be answered.

The data collected from 311 to track, evaluate, and if necessary correct, service patterns in the departments. So call!

New High Rise on Walnut
The Zoning and Governmental Affairs Committee of the WSWCA is scheduled to begin discussions with the owners of 1213 Walnut Street, this Tuesday the 2nd of June at 1001 Locust Street, Room 208, Hamilton Building. This will likely be the largest building that has ever been built in Wash West, so if you'd like to hear what's happening and voice your opinion, this is the place to do it. The meeting is public and will begin at 7pm.

Water Dept. Survey
The PWD is planning some work in our area, although it's still up in the air as to exactly where and when. In the meantime, they have an online survey about stormwater runoff that we thought our Wash West neighbors may be interested in filling out. Find it at http://www.phillywatersheds.org/public/gssurvey.php.

South Street Coupon Swap

Hello everyone,

This is your friendly neighborhood web guy, informing you of a new Forum I've created.

The South Street Superfresh - Big Red Grocery Giveaway - Coupon Swap
http://groups.google.com/group/ss-superfresh-coupon-swap

Description:
As you may or may not know, Superfresh is running a giveaway where they give you game pieces (like McDonald's Monopoly) and Free coupons with every load of groceries. Since I shop at the SS Superfresh every day I'm going to accumulate quite a few of these coupons and game pieces, as I image almost everyone in the neighborhood will as well.

If you click the link above you'll come to a FORUM where people can put up their winning coupons and game pieces to swap. This way, with a lot of people, there is a higher statistic for someone to win a grand prize (as well as off load coupons you won't use).
